:CueCat – The Failed Bar Code Scanner for the Internet Age – Bad Ideas #33

The :CueCat was the product of the marketing minds over at the Digital Convergence Corporation. They wanted to have a product that would allow consumers to scan proprietary codes in magazines that would be routed through their service to a web page of the manufacturers choosing. They weren’t really solving a problem anyone actually had, so they had to give the product away for free. And that’s when everything went very very wrong.
